16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. - Heb 10:16-17 (KJV)
This is quoting Old Testament Scripture (Jeremiah 31:33-34), and is God talking about the New Covenant that we are presently living under. This is saying that we no longer have to be told the law of God, as He is now putting them in our hearts when we are born, and writing them in our minds. This is why us humans have knowledge of right and wrong, even if we have never been taught it. Our God puts this knowledge in us from birth, and even if a person has never read, or heard, God’s Word, they still know what God considers to be sin. This is an amazing fact, as you can observe that all people know in their minds, when they are sinning, and disobeying the laws of God.
This verse saying that God will remember our sins and iniquities no more is something that most Christians don’t understand. The churches are still teaching that if you sin, God will not bless you or answer your prayers until you repent and get the sin under the blood. This is not what the bible teaches, and this verse makes it clear that God does not remember our sins anymore. Sin will still make you less able to receive God’s blessings by making you less sensitive to God, but it is not God that it affects, but you. All our sins have been forgiven, past, present, and future ones (Hebrews 9:12, 15, 25-28), so sin is not something that affects God’s love toward us, but it still opens the door to the devil to come steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10). Praise God for Jesus doing away with sin as a barrier between the Father and us (John 17:3)!
