18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. - 1 John 4:18 (KJV)

The Greek word translated as no in this verse is “OU”, and it is an absolute negative, meaning absolutely no fear. If you are living a life full of fear, then you do not have the perfect AGAPE type of God’s love in you. This would indicate that you are either not really born again, or that you are not walking after the Spirit, for God is love (1 John 4:8). If you have died to yourself, and are letting Christ live through you, then it is not you living, but Christ, and His love will be predominate in your life (Galatians 2:20). If you are truly born again, and still experiencing fear, then maybe you have not ever let yourself truly experience God’s love toward you. You can’t walk in God’s type of love, if you have never experienced it yourself. Study the Word of God (Romans 12:2), and know how much He loves you, and you will cast out all fear from your life.

It is so true that fear has torment as if you are living in fear you will be tormented all the time. That is the best way to understand if you have fear, as it will cause you to live a tormented life. The way to cast out that fear is to know God’s love for you, and start walking after the Spirit that lives within you (Galatians 4:6), if you are born again. One of the fruits of the Spirit is love, so if born again, you have that love on the inside of you (Galatians 5:22-23), and you just need to draw it out, and that will cause fear to be overcome. Praise the Lord for giving us His love, and the other fruits of the Spirit!
