10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. - James 4:10 (KJV)

The verses before this one have been talking about how we can draw close to God. We must quit relying upon our human wisdom, and following the ways of the world, and begin following the leading of the Holy Spirit and the ways of God (Psalms 111:10). Until we come to the end of ourselves, and give ourselves completely to God (Romans 12:1) we will never reap the benefits of being a child of God. God’s ways are so very different from the world’s ways (Romans 11:33), and you must learn God’s ways by reading and studying the bible (Romans 12:2), as that tells us what God expects of us.

This verse promises that when we do humble ourselves before God, that He will lift us up. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). The Kingdom of God is not like this world, and we must adjust our ways to His ways, before we can succeed in His Kingdom. In God’s Kingdom, the way up is down, and the way to be exalted is to humble yourself and to be a servant to others (Matthew 23:11-12). In this world it seems the only way to be famous, is to be proud, arrogant, and very ungodly, and then people will make you their idol. Most that are famous in the world are very different from what God expects us to be like. Righteousness is what counts in God’s Kingdom, and the only way to really know what pleases God, is to study His Word (John 17:17), and learn how He looks upon His children. I pray that I can change myself to be more like Jesus in this world, and glorify our Father in Heaven in all I say and do. Praise God for His Word!
