This is such an important topic. It seems like even Aaron erected the golden calf to honor God. “And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord.”‭‭ Exodus‬ ‭32:4-5‬ ‭

It’s the story I’m reminded of during Christmas and Easter. God did not set apart those days for His worship, so they are like making a golden calf. Most never think anything of it, what they’re worshiping or why; and some choose to rationalize why they consider it a holy day. They’ve made a new god of their own vain imagination, which has eternal consequences.

Very sobering,

“ Presumption frequently begins with careless drifting, but the drifting quickly advances from neglect to presumption unless one carefully checks whether he actually has God's permission to behave as he does. “
