1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. - Matt 10:1 (KJV)
The entire time that Jesus was ministering here on earth, he continually used healing the sick and diseased, as well as casting out demons, to show that He was doing the work of God (John 10:25). It is amazing that the modern church tends to ignore the very thing that made Jesus’ ministry so very powerful. If Jesus, and the early churches, needed to have the miracles of healing and deliverance to prove their message was from God, how can we not do them and expect people to believe our words are from God? It is the very reason that the modern day church is not having much impact on society. By not doing the works that Jesus told us we should do (John 14:12), and not using the Spiritual Gifts God has given us (1 Corinthians 12:8-11), we are making being a Christian, not of any benefit in this present world.
The early church not only taught the Gospel of Christ, but followed it with all kinds of miracles (Hebrews 2:3-4). Because they demonstrated the power of God, they were very successful, and Christianity influenced the whole known world. Most modern day Christians are spending all their time in their prayer closets, praying to God to send revival. If we would just go out and heal the sick, open the eyes of the blind, make the dumb to speak, the crippled to walk, cast out the demons, and raise the dead, then we would have all the revival we could handle. It is not up to God to send revival, but it is up to His people to get to work and make revival come again. As James wrote, “Faith without works, is dead” (James 2:20). We need to be about our Father’s business, and get out and do the works that Jesus commanded us to do (Mark 16:17-18). Praise God for giving us such awesome power over sickness, disease, and the devil – use it!
