44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? - John 5:44 (KJV)
God made us to be social creatures, and to desire to be with other people, but we tend to be dependent on others, and that is not good. If you are always trying to please people, and are always looking for acceptance and praise from other people, then you are worldly, and not godly. If you are born again (Romans 10:9-10), and put God first in your life, then your desire should be to please God, not people. This doesn’t mean that you want to be disliked by others, but what they think of you should not control you, and your desire should be to please God at all times, no matter what people think. The fear of man brings a snare (Proverbs 29:25).
Our world has gone overboard with the “political correctness” ideas, and we are told not to ever offend anyone. Sometimes we need to be offended, especially us Christians. If we are not living a holy lifestyle then our brothers should tell us so (Matthew 18:15), whether it offends us or not. The bible teaches us that if we do not correct our brothers, we hate them. If you love others, you will want what is best for them, and if that means that you need to tell them they are wrong – then do so. You should never be purposely offensive, but you should never stray from the truth, just to be “politically correct”. Our generation, which I call the “me generation”, is all about our own selves, and part of that is we do not want anyone to ever dislike us. Also we tend to never want to assume responsibility for our actions, as it is always someone else’s fault. Put God in the driver’s seat of your life, and just go along for the ride, following Him in all your ways.
