Daily Devotional

January 24

2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. - James 4:2-4 (KJV)

Us humans like to be our own god, and it is hard for us to humble ourselves and ask for things. We continually get into all kinds of trouble and many times do without, all because we don’t want to ask the Lord for His supply. How stupid we are to ignore the Lord’s provision. Many times humans will fight for, steal items, lie to get, and even go to war just to get something on our own. Our pride (Proverbs 16:18) is one of Satan’s best inroads into our lives, and he uses it against us all the time.

Many of our prayers to God, asking for something is just because we want the latest and best of everything. God is not against our having nice things but our asking is supposed to be in accordance with His Word and not just because we desire something for ourselves. Our asking should always be so that we can further the Kingdom of God, and not just for our own use. If you are truly born again, you will desire to serve the Lord, and your asking will reflect that. If all your prayers for things from God are just for your benefit, then maybe you need to get saved, as your fruit is not good. If you put God first – He will supply your daily needs.

Friendship with the world is friendship with the Devil, who is prince of the world. If all you think about are the worldly things, then you are not serving the Lord. You must realize that the things of this world are opposite and oppose the things of God. If you stay plugged into this world through TV shows, news, newspapers, magazines, movies, etc., then you are not serving the Kingdom of God, but of the Devil. When you are saved, you are sanctified, and that means set apart from this world and you should show it in how you live, and what you do and say. Your salvation depends upon your obedience to God (Hebrews 5:9). Study the Word of God, and live your life for the one who died for you – Praise God!
