19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. - Phil 4:19 (KJV
What a wonderful promise this is, but many people take this out of context, and try to claim God’s provision however they want it. Paul is writing to people that are partners of his, and have been giving unto him and his ministry. The promise can only apply to you, if you have been giving to the work of the Kingdom of God, and are faithful partners of His. You can not expect to receive from God, if you have never given. The bible is full of the principal of sowing and reaping (Matthew 13:3-8), and makes it clear that you do not get a crop if you never sow any seeds. If you have a history of planting seeds into the Kingdom (giving time and money), then you can expect that God will supply your needs. Remember that, as it is with crops that you have to plant seeds then wait a time, then get a harvest. You don’t wait until the time to reap, then plant seeds, and expect a harvest. You must not only plant, but keep serving until the time for harvest.
God is not a cheapskate, and when it says He will supply your needs, it is not just talking about giving you barely what you can get by with, but He will give an abundant supply. Many people have expected money to appear in their wallets supernaturally, but that is not how God’s provision comes. God flows through people and He will use people to give you what you need. When you are called by Him, to serve Him, He will get your needs met through people giving to you. This only applies if you are putting God first in your life, and loving Him with all your heart (Matthew 22:37). So many people are calling on God to provide their needs, when they have not put Him first in their lives. Your heart is like the earth, and if your heart is fertile (full of God), like good ground (Mark 4:8), then when you plant seeds (give) it will produce a crop. Do not expect God to let you win the lottery or something like that, as that is not His way. He will bring your supply through what you lay your hands on by working, or by blessing you through gifts from people. God can not bless you if you are not serving Him and not working. Praise God for His blessings!
