6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.- 2 Cor 9:6 (KJV)

The bible principal of reaping in proportion to what we sow, is given many times in scripture, and is applied to money, as well as other things. The principal is obvious in farming, as we can easily see that the crop you get depends on what seed you sow. How much you harvest depends on how much you plant, as well as many other variables, but you can not get a large crop unless you sow much seed. God tells us this principal and that He will not be deceived, or fooled, by how much we sow (Galatians 6:7). Jesus taught us that the amount we give is not in quantity, but rather in percentage of how much we have (Luke 21:3), and the attitude that we give with. Paul taught that “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7), and that if you give out of a feeling of obligation, or debt, then it will profit you nothing. You must give out of love (1 Corinthians 13:3), and desire to further the Kingdom of God, for it to be of benefit to you.

Giving has many benefits, including helping meet others needs, showing that you love and believe God, causing God to meet your future needs, and it causes praise and worship to God. There are many Christians who are praying for their financial needs to be met, and yet they don’t plant any seeds. You do not get a financial harvest without planting seeds, the same as with crops. Your heart is like the ground, in that if your heart is fertile (full of God’s love), then the seed you sow (money you give to the Kingdom) will produce a large crop (Mark 4:20). This does not only apply to money given to the church, or charities, but includes the money, or other help, that you give to others in need (Matthew 25:40). If you truly love God, and all that He has done for you, then you will give out of the proper reasons, and will reap a great harvest. Trust God’s promises, and give all that you can, so you will reap a great harvest in this life, as well as lay up treasure in heaven (Matthew 19:21). Believe in God’s promises, as He can not lie (Titus 1:2) – Praise God!
