**Happy New Year**
January 1
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Acts 8:14-16 (KJV)
This verse shows that receiving the Holy Ghost is separate from being born again and saved. Some teach that you receive the Holy Ghost upon salvation, but that is not necessarily so, as shown in this verse. But the reason that these Christians hadn’t received the Holy Ghost was that they were only baptized in the name of Jesus, and didn’t know about the Holy Ghost. If a born again Christian is born again and baptized in the name of “The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost” as Jesus said (Matthew 28:19), then they will receive the Holy Ghost at that time. Others teach that you must have a completely separate baptism to receive the Holy Ghost and that is not so if you were baptized as Jesus taught us to be. Jesus always had a reason to do, and say, what He did, and we need to follow all His directions. Scripture also shows that the Holy Ghost can be imparted by the laying-on of hands by a Christian (Acts 8:17).
Jesus came to John to be baptized, not because he needed remission of His sins (as He had none), but to receive the Holy Ghost with power to start His ministry (Matthew 3:16-17, Mark 1:9-10, Luke 3:21-22, John 1:32). This shows us that after being born again, we should be baptized to receive the Holy Ghost with all the spiritual gifts. In the book of Acts, many times when people were saved, they experienced the gifts of the spirit immediately, because they were expecting it. If you are asking for the Holy Ghost at the time you are born again, then you will receive it. If you are being taught against the Holy Ghost, but baptized as Jesus said, you may receive it, and not even know you have it until you renew your mind to the fact. God does not force anything upon us, and if you don’t believe in the gifts of the spirit, you won’t operate in them. What a gentleman our Heavenly Father is – Praise God!
