9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (Hebrews 5:9 KJV)
Jesus was already perfect before going to the cross for us, but this is saying that His fulfilling His Father’s will for Him completed His perfect life here on earth. Jesus was the perfect human, and lived without sin His whole life, and thereby was able to be the perfect sacrifice that was required, to be able to pay for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). Jesus was the only human that was ever able to fulfill the entire Law given through Moses, and since He did that, the Law no longer applies to us, who are born again, as we are part of the body of Christ thereby having fulfilled the entire Law through Jesus. A lot of churches still try and teach that you must do works of the law to be right with God – but that is just not so (Romans 3:28). Jesus fulfilled the law, and earned righteousness by doing it, and then gave us His righteousness. He took our sin, and gave us His righteousness – what a trade.
Notice that Jesus was the “author of eternal salvation”, not temporary salvation, but eternal, if you obey Him. Many Churches teach that you can be born again, then lose your salvation when you sin, then get born again, again, when you confess the sin. This is not right according to scripture, as you can only get born again once, and if you ever renounce your salvation and faith in Jesus, then you become reprobate, and Jesus will not die for you again, so you can not get reborn again. There is no such thing as born again, again. No man can pluck you out of God’s hand, but you can jump out of it yourself, so you are saved unless you leave your salvation yourself. As long as you don’t blasphemy the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), or become a reprobate, or disobey Jesus, you will go to heaven upon your death. Even a born again Christian can be sent to hell, if they do blasphemy the Holy Ghost, or don’t obey our Lord Jesus, as your name can be blotted out of the book of life (Revelation 3:5). Live your life for Christ, and let Him live through you, and be assured that you will live eternally with Jesus – Praise God!
