Makes me think of the fancy downtown stores where a t-shirt costs $40 and there are homeless begging for food right outside the door, ignored by the shoppers.

I tend to think that the grain represents the masses faith in Jesus Christ. It will be scarce at the time of the end for many. If Jesus rides out on the white horse first, and gathers the 144,000; satan follows on the red horse, causing calamities and mass death. Jesus’ message is reiterated on the black horse, not to damage the oil or wine, while faith is scarce in the majority; as if ones faith is in the balance. The pale horse reiterates what God has allowed satan to do with 1/4 of the earth. It’s almost as if each seal is magnifying certain details of unfolding events for the two groups.

I do think there may be compound fulfilments and types operating, but I think that the historical fulfilments are the most compelling.
