14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 IKJV)

This verse is telling us that we should date and marry people of our faith, as if a believer marries an unbeliever, then you are going to have a real problem in maintaining your faith. Many have thought that they can bring their mate to believe like they do, only to find that the mate leads them into unbelief, and they fall away from their faith. You should not divorce your mate if you are already married, but you should be careful to not marry someone that doesn’t share your faith. Many problems in marriage would be avoided if we would follow this advice. The old saying of “Families that pray together, stay together” is very true, as sharing a common faith in the Lord, gives real harmony to a relationship. Your faith needs to be the predominate thing in your life, and you can’t just ignore it in your relationships with others, and have it stay the focus of your life. Keep this truth in your mind at all times, and you will avoid a lot of grief.

This also applies to all your relationships, as to business partners, friends, etc., as all your relationships can lead you closer to the Lord, or further away from Him. You need to have contact with unbelievers to be able to share the Gospel of Christ with them, but you should not be yoked with them in a close relationship, unless it is you influencing them, and not them influencing you. You are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), and must get out of the salt shaker to spread the Gospel. But be very careful who you become close too, as you need to fellowship with true believers and not this world of darkness, as what has light to do with darkness, as they are opposites. Live your life so that others may see Christ living through you, but don’t give the devil any opportunities to put out your light. If you keep your mind on Christ at all times, you will not give place to the devil. Praise God for His Word!
