I was raised Catholic but I always thought Protestantism and (some of) it's offshoots had a better ethos than Catholicism, I always liked how they emphasised your personal connection to God, in place of "idolatry" and priest worship. That said I kind of like the idolatry, it has produced some beautiful art, and there is a connection to be made with the physical embodiment of God's beauty, be it art, statues, jewellery, architecture, etc,... all expressions of the beauty of life and God. But fuck the Pope and Catholic priests, and well, Catholicism as an institution. I also appreciate Catholicism's role in crushing the Jew throughout Europe, unlike Protestantism, which seems to have had some Jew-friendly relations in it's early days.
