Catholics are trained to lie to themselves, like Jews. Catholics need to conceal their vice from the priest -- Jews have Jewish Mothers.

The lie is that they are exempt from consequences for their wickedness.
To be fair, it's not just them. I see it every time someone "apologizes" for something hurtful they did intentionally. As though if they say "Sorry! Tee-hee," then no one can hold them morally accountable.
I have a nephew who lies and uses people all the time, and he thinks apologizing is just how he balances out being a dick.
People use their virtue to shelter their vices.
It's like how people are OK with gluttonous consumption as long as they recycle.
