Word.
I've only recently embraced Protestantism. Mostly out of pragmatism and acceptance of observed reality. Most of the genuinely decent people I've known are Protestants. Not necessarily the most intelligent or right wing people, but the people I trust to not intentionally fuck me over.
I'm very much anti Catholic for the same reasons. The worst people I've ever dealt with personally are Catholics, both at work and in the family.
A tree is known by its fruit, and the most immoral, self righteous asshats I've encountered are Catholics. They are also the most politically progressive people I've met.
I have felt a purpose more and more as I get older, and I feel that God fits the bill. Investigating Christianity led me to believe that it might be truth. Having started reading the Bible, I found that I've never heard anyone do the book justice. I went to church for a while seeking guidance, but I found that people all say the same things about the Bible and what it means. It occurred to me that people are all simply accepting the conclusions of others, of so called experts. I decided to never let anyone else try to tell me what a book says if I can read it myself.
I believe that I don't need an intermediary for my faith to be real, nor do I need a church to tell me how to express my religion. Like anything else in life, the proof is in the pudding. I have to find out what works. I try to copy what wins, and avoid what does not.
The worst people I've ever dealt with personally are Catholics,
Catholics are trained to lie to themselves, like Jews. Catholics need to conceal their vice from the priest -- Jews have Jewish Mothers.
The lie is that they are exempt from consequences for their wickedness.
To be fair, it's not just them. I see it every time someone "apologizes" for something hurtful they did intentionally. As though if they say "Sorry! Tee-hee," then no one can hold them morally accountable.
I have a nephew who lies and uses people all the time, and he thinks apologizing is just how he balances out being a dick.
People use their virtue to shelter their vices.
It's like how people are OK with gluttonous consumption as long as they recycle.
