I see it as a balance. Catholicism is good because you've got a wealth of tradition to fall back on, the confessional which is kind of a neat idea, the adoration of Mary, Mother of God, which is missing from Protestantism, and a central command center to keep you all more or less on the same page (although that has failed recently with the Bad Seed Pope).
Protestantism, on the other hand, has reliance on the actual word of God, as recorded in the Bible, a personal relationship with God that needs no intermediaries, and a rich tradition of hermeneutics. I like a good, long sermon if the preacher has something to say.
It does seems a little sterile to me, when I watch Protestant sermons on my monitor. No statues, often not even a cross, no fancy costume for the preacher, no gold decorations, no scarlet wall hangings, no funny hats. Catholic mass is a much more emotional experience than most Protestant sermons (I say "most" because some Pentacostal churches really rock with the speaking in tongues, the rolling on the floor, and the snakes). Religion needs an element of magic or it dries up and blows away.
