It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil not just knowledge in general.
So just knowledge as you cannot have only one side. Absolute good stagnates. Absolute evil leads to destruction. God created something akin to a dog of us and satan gave us the ability to self determine.
knowledge is not just about good and evil though. there are lots of things to know that really are neither good or evil. I would never look at us a being akin to dogs before the fall. the bible talks very specifically how we were made and that is not true with other animals. We had free will even at that point to follow him or not and if we hadn't we would have never disobeyed him. I also could never look at satan as our savior, he hates us because God loves us. His motives are only for harm and were not for our betterment in the garden of Eden. believing that satan is just the misunderstood underdog is a black hole I would never want to go down.
None of this addresses the topic. He might hate us sure. Hatred isn't blind and you can put aside hatreds for more productive things. Giving us self awareness doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.
