Maybe I'm just jaded. Growing up as one and finding out 3 out of 5 priests at my church were pedophiles or gay. And 50 percent of the nuns were gay as well and one dropped out.
I find the ritual distracting and it takes away from the deep down message of loving God and God's love for us.
The main ritual of worship is literally the words and acts of Jesus at the Last Supper. Matthew 26:26-30
That's exactly right. The things that Jesus did were breaking of the bread as a symbolism of him, same with the wine and then the Our Father. I do like The Beatitudes though. The rest is just ritual and pageantry, time fillers.
Today they were swearing some new Catholics in and they literally had everybody in the audience hold their hand up like they were doing some sort of ritualistic seance to send their power to these new catholics. I just stood there looking at everyone like what the fuck is going on.
The only time the hold the hand up (like a laying on of hands in prayer in the direction of new Catholics) that struck me as odd was when I realized that people were holding their hands out like a heil Hitler.
