Make no mistake, Ford is not bringing back manual transmissions: they're simulating them. Another fake feature.

Ford has just filed a patent to bring back a classic driving experience

The automaker has submitted paperwork to bring stick shifts to electric vehicles.

I rest my case.

An electric stick shift? These must be the same guys that used to sell bicycles to fish.

Ford has just filed a patent to bring back a classic driving experience - but only 18 percent of Americans would know how to use it.

preface: I know how to drive a manual transmission vehicle

I know Poal loves their stick shift vehicles, but outside of fun and nostalgia, let's be real here. Manual transmissions have some real benefits, but automatic transmissions are as much or more of a boost to vehicle usability as changing from wood stoves to gas or electric stoves. Being nostalgic for stick shift is like wanting a dial-up modem because they were what we grew up with and they make cool noises. It's just a bygone relic of a time we remember fondly. We don't really want to go back there.

Stick has/had its place, but it just doesn't make much difference today for non-commercial vehicles. People aren't nostalgic for hand-crank engine starters or total loss engine lubrication systems. We're not pining for the fabulous days of having to manually adjust the choke to keep the motor running. And no one is calling for a return to cars made mostly of wood either. Just like with remote controls for TVs, we moved on and few people really want to go back to manually "turning" the channel. Stick is just a nostalgic throw back because you have fond memories of it.

Now who here wants to ditch their cartridge ammo and go back to muzzle loading powder, a shot ball and wadding? It's a fun feature, right?

I like to drive a manual for many reasons but the primary one is due to some of the places I need to go sometimes. (Need, not want, I am not trail driving). There are places where if I was driving a automatic I am sure I would not get through it.

They are useful and I appreciate automatics for city/highway driving but in some situations a Manual just makes sense. If you don't need that then don't have one. I don't see a reason to have one with a EV because I am NOT taking an EV anywhere near where the places I use my 4wd manual. That would be beyond stupid.

This feels like its to make people that play racing games feel like they are having "fun" driving their ev like they are driving a manual race car. It seems kind of stupid.
