But over the two days, I worked some more with nodebb and decided against it. It's pretty buggy, and the documentation is severely lacking. Even trying to ask questions on their main community.nodebb.org site, I ran into a bug where I couldn't setup an email account, so therefore wasn't able to post. Reading about other people's problems, it has a tendency to silently fail on things. Anyway, I worry about the security of the system if it has so many problems. So I researched on alternatives. I looked at mastadon, and discourse, and some p2p solutions as well. I'm probably going to go with discourse because it seems like the easiest, fastest thing, but of course that means learning rails, and I'm still trying to get up to speed on js extension writing, so this is a lot of learning without much doing which kind of sucks.
