How much money do you think it costs to feed, clothe, house, and medically care for a person for their entire life?
$500,000 is considered a small amount for a full retirement, the last 20 or so years of someone’s life, so how much is needed for their entire life? Three times? Five?
Multiply that number by the 400,000 Americans who have downs syndrome. Also consider how many people are born with disorders that are worse than DS. That’s the amount we’ll pay over our lifetimes of labor, sweat, isolation from our families, and taxes so that someone who produced nothing ever can still be learning to color inside the lines when they’re 60.
How on earth can you think that’s a worthwhile expense for any society?

I have one in my family, it's not down syndrome, she suffered asphyxia at birth because of her brother's umbilical cord that got stuck around her neck, and she got brain damaged, the brother died
She's been in a wheel chair since birth pretty much, she's barely able to walk without it, she's all sort of complications
Today, she has a master's in History, and last time I heard of her she had a boyfriend (yes, don't ask me), serious guy, idk if they plan on getting married, they probably will
