Parent company Kroger will close two locations in Long Beach California due to a $4 hero pay increase passed by the city council. Grocery stores operate on small margins so even high turnover of product has limits. I bet there's a lot of theft going on as well. Long Beach is a Food desert in the making.

I'm not a fan of big corporations, but they don't close profitable stores to virtue signal or make a statement. Rather, they typically shut down stores that aren't making a profit.

However, I'm sure Bezos will step up and open a Whole Foods while gladly paying an extra $4 or $5 hazard pay.
