Atx or micro ATX? I can show the mobo I've used for 3 AM4 builds within the last 2 years.
Avoid MSI like a fucking nigger. I cannot understand the hype but every single MSI board I've used over the span of 20 years I've been forced to return for something else.
I haven't even made that decision yet. I'm still in the very early stages of this. I'm upgrading from the equivalent of a 2009 Honda Accord, so anything is pretty much better than what I have now.
Ok, I'll give a few ideas. AM4 is gonna be a cheaper build on numerous fronts. Board and memory for sure. If you can catch one on sale, a 5700x3d or 5800x3d are beasts. If your gonna go AM5, expect large markups on basically every piece. The long term upgradability will be better with AM5, so not sure how important that is for you.
ATX tends to be a lot more feature rich in terms of onboard stuff. But microATX for some folks can be PLENTY. The gigabyte I'm using has 4 memory channels, 2 PCIe, m.2, all the good shit and onboard wifi Bluetooth. And it's all crammed into a micro ATX form factor. So just shop around for what you think you need or may want I'm the future.
As far as video cards....MSRP is fucked. Newegg has a used market to save some sheckles. In terms of maker...unless your on Linux it doesn't matter much anymore unless you want ray tracing. I am far more partial to AMD GPU for bang for buck. Yet I'm using a 2070 super cause I got it cheap.
Beyond that, the only other thing I can recommend is get a larger PSU than you might think you need. GPU requirements are getting insane. 750w is about the MINIMUM you'd want nowadays. If you can afford it, I'd closer to 850 for long term use ability
Thank you very much. I'll keep these points in mind.
