So I'm kind of a nerd who has always enjoyed fantasy novels. It's a family tradition to go to the Renaissance festival every year. I'm working on making my youngest son a set of chainmail armor. Here's what I've got so far. I made it from rebar tie. I created a spindle of sorts to crank the iron wire into a spindle similar to the spring used on screen doors. Then I take wire cutters and cut each link. From there it's easy to take pliers and weave the metal rings. This is an excruciatingly long process but it looks good. I intend to sand the rust off and paint it.

Forgot to mention, rinse well to get the acid off. It’ll be spent most likely, but to be sure. Add baking soda to your rinse water for an extra neutralizer if you wish. Then plain water rinse. Of course dry immediately. If you’re in humid country I’d apply your rust prevention asap. Even sweaty hands will get the rust going.
