I took this throwaway picture of the mallards while I was hiking today. I didn't even see the pair of wood ducks off to the right hiding in the brush. We don't get a whole lot of wood ducks around here, but I have been noticing more of them the past few years.

Next time I'm out that way I'll have to keep a sharper eye and see if I can get a better picture.

I honestly don't know how I missed them. I guess I was so focused on mallard on the left. I was thinking of cropping the shot around him.

All in all it was a good day for a birding hike. Saw some bluebirds and red-winged blackbirds which I really enjoy.

That's a picture that ducks unlimited may find very interesting. It's worthy of a commissioned painting. Great work.

Are you blind!? Nah seriously nice pic, what camera do you use? I have a Canon 5d mk2 that's been sitting in the closet unused for years

I think because I was using my flip out screen to lineup the shot and just centering my attention on keeping the autofocus on the left mallard. But yeah srsly, idk how I missed it. I'm usually really good at spotting animals even much smaller ones.

I have a Nikon Z 6 II. I really like the camera, but eventually I'm going to need a better lens for bird shots. The longest lens I have is a 24-200mm f/4-6.3. I'm really happy with it, but 200mm is a bit short for birding shots.

I used to hang out with this spic inna park. We would just sit there and drink booze. Every once in a while, he would say 'a duck is a duck, and a duck don' give a fuck'.

Only one of the five ducks is tricky to spot.
