Oh wow, what a beauty

Really was. I waited about 20 minutes to try and get a picture of some movement, but no luck. The hawk was quite content to stay perched there.

He was waiting for another cheeseburger to come out of the magic food hole.

Kind of unusual to see them resting so low to the ground.

Ive seen them on fence posts a bunch of times.

Yeah, they'll sit on anything where they can get a good view of potential food.

Kind of unusual to see them resting so low to the ground.

I have them all over my property all the time and have seen one sitting on a post that tall that's in my field all the time. Same one also sits on a tree branch at the start of my driveway about 7 feet off the ground, they fly off when I go by. Guess they are strong fliers who don't need the height to make a kill in the field.

I read they like the higher vantage point to see more prey.

Around here they are usually high up. Especially at this park. There are a few radio towers and they like to perch on the cables.

Naturally they do and yet that doesn't mean they won't use a lower vantage point when it suits them. There are tall trees all over around here and often in the morning when I go out they scream about me from the tops of some tall ones where they also hang out.

I've saw one hanging around on the ground one time. I think usually they prefer it a little higher up but definitely not abnormal to be on a fence or something.

Nice perk of being an apex predator is you can go wherever you want. (Until a bunch of various small bird species decides to mob you like it's a BLM riot)

It's on a bird house. It's basically a food vending machine.

Pretty, but the bastard's killed six of my chickens.

That's a nice shot. Some cultures think that a hawk is a sign of trouble or a bad omen. Not sure why.

Thanks!

I had not heard that. Maybe because they prey on smaller creatures?

Don't know. The one I know of is Vietnamese. I'll have to dig into that sometime.
