After 10-20 years inmates become ‘institutionalized’. Their world is behind the walls. They’re comfortable, happy. We pay their upkeep until they die naturally or otherwise. In a ‘perfect world’ if you get the death penalty you’re gone by the end of the week after sentence.

That. DNA test takes a week at most. If guilty, clean out your cell. If crimminal recidivists realize there is no more 25 years in prison, their attitudes will change, prolly for the worse. But, get sentenced, and you have a week maybe two, a realization will set in. Remind them they made the choice.

That is something I've never thought about. But I don't think I would change my mind in that position. 20,30 years or more in a cage? To me, death would preferable.
