The 1968 Automatic Washer she had lasted to 2010 before it broke. 42 years without repair.

Could probably be rebuilt for a lot less than a new, worse machine would cost in sales taxes.

Agree, but it was situated in the basement all those years and the cold water pipes sweat and dripped on it in the humidity of summer.... so the top had rust on ir, did not look pretty and you couldn't really spread clothes on it for fear of getting rust on them. So I bought her a new top load washer.
