Same here. It's why I love credit unions. So far they have always bent over backwards to be helpful. Once when I called to make sure an ex couldn't get access to my account they transferred me to someone who walked me through a zillion things I'd never thought of to take him off of and to keep him from stealing from me. A regular bank would have just said everything was fine and hung up.
Yep, I only bank with (local) credit unions. Though, I guess I have been doing that longer than most. I only had a account with a "national bank" for a couple of years (while I still had a local credit union account) I shut it down once I was consolidating everything.
I refuse to use a national/international bank. You don't always get extra benefits from it but with being with the same place for several decades they tend to work pretty hard to help out when something is not going right or to get you better service.
Oh, and for people that don't use a credit union because "there is no branch in my town" Most of them are part of partner networks now so it does not matter if they have a branch 500+ miles from you. They have a partner branch and you can bank with them (without fees) the same as you would in your home branch. Look into it.
