This is another one of those apparently pithy observations that actually means nothing. It's a motorcycle cop enforcing a law that has been proven to reduce injury and death in automobiles. So what. Or is OP suggesting that motorcycles should be outlawed because they don't have seat belts?

[–] 1 pt

Years ago some politician was actually pushing for seat belts on motorcycles, never realizing how stupid he was.

our government fucking hates bikers and finds something new to slap on us every couple of years. For a while, they wanted to force manufacturers to put license plates on the front mudguard..... which would instantly kill you if you go over the bars. then they used our TAC fee that goes to 'motorcycling infrastructure' to build bicycle lanes in the city, and chain link road dividers that decapitate motorcyclists.

[–] 1 pt

They hate bikers in the states too. I used to get so many lunatics trying to block me from lane splitting. They don't realize the more bikers splitting traffic the less cars on the road and thus less traffic overall. They're just pissed cause they can't grab life by the balls like bikers do.

the point is the hypocrisy. If saftey is so important on the road, then yes, all motorcycles should be banned on the road, police ones included. If not; then car drivers should be allowed to not wear a seatbelt and assume the same risk of bodily harm motorcyclists take.

and there certainly shouldn't be a fee for not wearing a seatbelt. It's like when there were anti lockdown protests at the beginning of the lockdowns, and the police at the protests weren't wearing masks. it showed that the masks were bs from the start.

Seatbelts are for others safety. For example a minor collision can throw the driver from the drivers seat to the passenger seat. How you gonna press on the break while you are sitting in the pass seat? Now your car is on a collision course with a backyard full of nuns gardening.

[–] 1 pt

if they really cared about people wearing seat belts ..and saving lives... then positive reinforcement is much more powerful and effective than punishments to changed behaviour... so they should have random police stops were they give out $10 if they catch you "WEARING YOUR SEAT BELT"...then people would be more likely to wear seat belts... the police side as a revenue collection agency for corrupt government officials who mismanage tax dollars.

the positive reinforcement is when they look at your record, see youre not an asshat of a driver with a string of offences, then say 'no worries, ill give you a warning this time, but next time'

but you will NEVER get that response if your first response is "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PULLING ME OVER FOR?" (Thats what the vast majority of bikers i know get their motorcycles roadworthied on the side of the road for, not because of hteir bike or riding, but because they failed the attitude test the second they opened their mouths.

Seat belt laws are unconstitutional, as are helmet laws.

I personally recognize the safety provided and wear either depending on which vehicle I'm operating. A helmet has saved me from head trama on several occasions.

A person should have the freedom to forgo the safety devices so long as they do nothing to protect others. Its also worth mentioned that both a seatbelt and helmet are not without fault. A seatbelt can slow you down if you need to quickly escape from the vehicle in an emergency, and a helmet restricts vision.

Heh Victorian Cops will ignore a drunk driver taking out a pedestrian to chase after someone doing 150kmh.

more fun.

step one - remove all these new BMW and VW patrol cars from police officers, replace them with bicycles and smart cars. they can make up their quotas by finally doing something about the actual fucking dangerous retards on the road that think theyre safe because no demerit points because theyre too shit scared to even do a limit (aka, a fucking dangerous driver)

ThPEd KiLlth

If speed kills why are fighter pilots and formula 1 drivers still a thing. A retard will kill themselves at 5kmh far easier than a race driver will kill themselves at 300kmh.

dO U nO Hao MENi AccTHiDEnth I BE 2 where DriVer FaLLth AthlEEp BcUZ WEed?

Yes. i do. You have been to a grand total of ZERO fatal accidents 'where the driver fell asleep behind the wheel because of weed'

It lowers the death rate, and this means lowers liability.

Let's say that i have and accident while drunk and hit another car. If they aren't wearing their seat belt, and die, is it manslaughter?

It's not about safety. It is was, they would allow manufactures to sell vehicles with roll cages and race harnesses.

If the driver of the car was wearing a helmet then ya, you could make an argument about hypocrisy. In a car the car is your safety device. The seat belt keeps you in said safety device. On the bike the helmet is the safety device and it should be firmly attached to your head.

It’s a deal with insurance companies and revenue generation for the town. But insurance companies go by flat rates. If they have to pay out more because idiot hillbilly likes to have a few drinks before going over to his cousins, to rape her, and not wear a seatbelt - hits a fkn tree. Boom payout medical hospital shit. Insurance companies look at this and say holy shit. He’s fucking his cousin and we have to pay a shit ton of medical bills because idiot didn’t wear a seatbelt preventing all those brain injuries and broken upper body parts from going through the windshield. So people that do take the 3s to strap on have to pay higher premiums for insurance companies to stay in profit margins. Without this law. We’d all be paying slightly higher premiums for vehicle insurance. Now let’s move onto UN-insured motorist.

You can still ride your bike without a helmet in America.
