I don't know what you are talking about but I'd show up
Ive never done the BBS thing but i used to be HARDCORE into MUDs. Astaria was once my bitch
MUDs are the next genesis of BBS door games. Direct lineage in fact. Only difference is you get dumped into a menu when you dial/telnet in with more options.
Might need a refresher course on BBS boards.
All the "modern" board software is pretty intuitive and has obvious cues, like "send message" with the s highlighted in a different color.
Hmm, would you care to give more details?
BBS = Bulletin Board System. They were popular in the 80s and early 90s. You could dial in with a modem and talk trash about how much TRS80s/AppleIIs/commodores sucked donkey nuts and then wait til the next day for a reply so you could bait people out some more. Later in the 80s people came out with text based multiplayer games where you would get 5 turns per day or so and battle other users. My favorites are Empire 2, Nukem, and L.O.R.D. <- use search engine. To lazy do to lifting my arm repetitively(drinking.)...
I'd play some games.
Can we connect to a BBS via tcp/ip? I guess the answer is "of course, stupid", but I was used to call directly to the BBS.
The answer is yes, a lot of board software has been converted to telnet and there are Hayes modem emulators for those that have not such as tcpser. (github.com)
Can we play Mutants?
Holy shit, never heard of that one (everything2.com) before. Sounds cool as shit though. I could poke around and see if there is a porting option.
I used to help run a BBS back in the day and we'd trade access to our porn stash for access to the BBS that hosted Mutants locally. A win/win, for certain.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time nowadays.
Ok, but instead of uploading 30 disks worth of games (including the speech packs), I'll just post links to the abandonware sites.
As long as you bring back L.O.R.D.
It's been a while since I've heard one of Seth Able's songs or given Violet the ol' in-out in-out.
