I read a book written by a veteran SE5a pilot from WWI. He was horrified because the British Army would send pilots with just 7 hours of flight school. He would tell these kids “stick to my wing and you’ll be fine” they wouldn’t and decided to be heros. He would fly back alone to pick up more of these idiots
Edit to add: I once was a brand new aviator and charged into the sky fearless and ready for everything! Experience and sense taught me a lot. Safety first, I’ll just say that now after decades of flying.
