It’s very interesting to watch the “video game” generation come into the aviation career field and take to the automation and complexities of modern aircraft like a fish to water. They master it in no time. They become experts of the automation like it’s just another video game. Yet, when it comes to flying they are at a loss, especially with heavy jets, it’s very hard to get a feel for how it’s flying. Seat of your pants flying is hard in an airliner when the jet is usually lying to you. Some of the best airline pilots are the ones who keep themselves in the flying game by still flying small aircraft as a hobby, glider pilots, former military pilots etc.
