If you use home automation these days, you’re probably used to using smart speakers, your smartphone, or those tabletop touchscreen devices.
Do it the old fashioned way, just run it on an ancient linux server with cron.
I have a lot of local-only stuff. I use HomeAssistant as well as a bunch of other random custom stuff ive done to make it into what I want. I hate "cloud" things and I want full control over it and I don't want it to go to "someone else's computer".
I even have a local voice system that can work with Home Assistant so I get Google/Alexa like functionality but everything is 100% local. Sure, it takes some work to build and maintain but I can have all of those things without dealing with a outside company being able to spy on me 24/7.
Mine is mostly lighting stuff. I really haven't touched it for years other than to maybe change morning on times when I change jobs or something.
