Rejection of the idea of god, has nothing to do with being right or wrong, it has nothing to do with a quest for truth, while many atheist like to fancy themselves as truth seekers. Reality, is that their unfortunate physical condition (handicap) and/or past traumatic experience(s) (like early loss of loved ones, parents), prevents them from believing in god. Because the existence of god would imply that, what they suffer from, has been done to them on purpose, by god. And that idea is just unacceptable, it's injustice, in implies that god is just a sadist and a tyrant. For that reason alone, god has to be denied, whether he exists or not is irrelevant, he deserves to be punished. That's what at the root of atheism. A desire to punish god, a desire of vengeance.
