Screws are inserted into gas pumps to prevent transactions from concluding, allowing thieves to steal gas according to police

The screw

Who cares how far down the flap travels? Moving the flap up turns the pump off and ends the transaction. Limiting the downward travel does nothing. What am I missing?

Who the hell doesn't wait to get a receipt? You'd notice that it's not finishing.

Plus, doesn't this mean that the pump would never begin the next transaction since it would think the pump hadn't been put back or taken off properly?

I always wait for the pump to tell me it's out of receipt paper. I'm not sure I have ever actually gotten a receipt from a pump where I live. Other states, yes. At home, never.
