Yeah I have seen plenty of people embrace this idea "you need to earn respect" to combat the SJW nonsense which asks you to worship each one of their perversions. But it's a mistake, you should respect everyone, and especially those who are older than you. I would say those in positions of authority too, but only if that position of authority was gained voluntarily(so politicians don't count).
