I'm thinking of installing permanent decorative lightning around the perimeter of my house roof line. It would be usable for other holidays, 4th of July and whatnot... I've never done anything like this before, does anyone have experience with this? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? Any input would be appreciated.

I have it. As @MrFadedGlory said the key is invisibility. Of choose you can go different colors for different holidays, or just white light for backyard evening events. My house is pretty tall and didn't want to be hanging off a 35 ft ladder while trying to post lights straight, so i just paid a pro to do it, so can't say how difficult. That said In very happy with the results.
