I'm thinking of installing permanent decorative lightning around the perimeter of my house roof line. It would be usable for other holidays, 4th of July and whatnot... I've never done anything like this before, does anyone have experience with this? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? Any input would be appreciated.

I have it. As @MrFadedGlory said the key is invisibility. Of choose you can go different colors for different holidays, or just white light for backyard evening events. My house is pretty tall and didn't want to be hanging off a 35 ft ladder while trying to post lights straight, so i just paid a pro to do it, so can't say how difficult. That said In very happy with the results.

I think there are products you can get that change colors with an app for different holidays.

Yes, something like that would be good.

My dad did it when I was a teen. He hooked it up to a dedicated light switch. He just had to go around and check for dead bulbs on occasion with a ladder from what I remember.

I don't have any experience doing this but I have seen some really good examples. The best ones that I have seen are virtually invisible during they day. They are very low profile but really make the house pop at night. Do it!

This seems like the right idea. You don’t want it to be noticeable until it’s on at night.

I can do the installation of the lights and do a clean enough job. It's the controllers and programs that make me think twice, though I have been reading there are controllers that are easy to set up and use. It's gonna be fun.

The landscape lighting company I'm familiar with, unique lighting, offers color changing bulbs and a WiFi controller. To go this route you'd need multiple transformers to get different colors at the same time.
