So, when I was in my early 20s I ran for office. "They" screwed me over. If I try again now, it turns out it's 1k+ signatures to get on ballot. I have zero social media presence and I'm kinda tarded. Is it even worth trying?

Here's the story about when I was young (I'm 46 the end of Dec, since I know that matters) - I tried to run for library board when I was 20ish. I had been a librarian other towns for 5+ years at the time. I was told I had to get X number of signatures. I did it. The local grocery store was amazing and the owner allowed me to stand outside and ask. I got the number. I submitted it all. They "lost" the paperwork. I resubmitted with the copies. I was told I never submitted. So I gave them copies of all my signatures - "oh, honey, copies don't count. We need the real thing." And then it was two days to the deadline.

In an even larger town, for something like City Council, should I bother to try? My bf says I'll just be disappointed. He also said I shouldn't be a poll watcher out here in AZ because it's too corrupt and I could hurt or even fired.

Are you in the same town now? If so, I'm guessing it will be an uphill battle and you will be unsuccessful. You're apparently not a member of the "club".

Different state altogether. Much, much, much larger city.

So you are OK with AZ being taken over? Bad enough they have that open primary initiative on the ballot (it's unfair that people who don't belong to your group don't get to vote for who leads you - the biggest California my Arizona inititive there is) . I say do it.

Have you tried free donuts?

Don't have the money for that.

Even for baby donuts?

Even for donut holes. I'd like to just get what I need without cash.

So you don't get a receipt when you hand over the application?

It was 2002, when I did it. I asked and they refused. I was young and didn't fight it to hard.

Well that's a clear sign of corruption right there. If you want to try again I'd say first find out if they would do that now. You could also go the route of video recording the conversation when you approach, and also record when you hand over the application. This becomes your proof if you wanted to take them to court if they lose it again or otherwise try to change the rules on you last minute.

You could also hire a lawyer for advice on the steps you need to take to protect yourself as you go through this.
