I've got a 30ish inch Samsung TV and it isn't connected to the internet 99.9999% of the time. It is hooked up to various game consoles and that's all it does and works fine
I needed to test some chinesium thumbdrives and hooked it up via the wire last weekend to go through the setup.
Per Luis Rossman, LG requires you to accept a TOS update to use any and all features of the TV. I'm not aware of how many other brands require that.
