You could just not connect it to a network...?

That's what we did for my mom's tv. She had a direct cable to tv hookup and that was it; wifi was not set up so it was basically a dumb tv. I think it was one of the super cheap TCL "roku" brands. Definitely got our money's worth out of it.

Yes exactly, if it doesn't have access to a network it has no way to communicate.
