It is nice talking to all of you. Some of us get along and some don't. It has been a rough few weeks, maybe months at this point. How often do you feel like everyone around you just are not trying at all? Not that they can't get it done. Just that they just don't care and don't bother. I am getting really tired of picking up the slack.

Have you tried just not giving a fuck? Muh work ethics. You working so hard to make your boss is the reason he can afford dei and human resources. I kinda agree with the left on this. Rich people don't get rich working hard. They get rich by blowing smoke up your ass until you work hard for them

I got a job in 2009 and worked very very hard.

In 2012 I finally realized no one gave a fuck and I was never getting a raise or a promotion.

I stopped shaving, grew a beard, and started coasting instead of breaking a sweat.

A few years ago I got a much better job... but it was because I knew a guy, not because I applied myself or anything.

The older I get the less I care about my work. It's something I do to get money. It's hard to have pride in my work because my industry is so fucked. I've already risen to a position I'm comfortable with I have no real reason to go above and beyond. I want to get my shit done as quickly as possible so I can get back to my personal goals.

>I am getting really tired of picking up the slack

After doing years of this ^

I'm now turning into this:

>How often do you feel like everyone around you just are not trying at all? Not that they can't get it done. Just that they just don't care and don't bother.

Sadly, the owners of the company I work for, who I used to enjoy working for because they treated everyone fantasticly, got too old and somewhat retired selling their shares and now the company is destroyed by some investment company who wants to hire a bunch of shit skins.

So now I just cbf, they aren't paying anyone any more and any extra effort I put in, is no longer recognised so whatevs

This is my situation also. I like what I do and Im damn good at it. 20 yrs. Now the company's are pounding the DEI / ESG drums and are still hiring, even though we dont have any work for them, DEI greens who have no skills or even an interest in what we do, and they are paid well for it. So I and other seasoned techs do our own jobs and isolate. We will not train our DEI replacements and all of them are very low IQ anyway. We aren't geniuses but holy shit. Its like making a kid a mechanic and he hasn't changed the oil or a tire, in-fact he doesn't even know it has oil to change or why its there. Also raises have virtually been non existent for the past many years.

Yeah I'm in charge of hiring for my team so I get to say who out of this shitnigs are good enough. So far we have had 20ish applicants and I've said no to all of them. Now my team is is short of man power and we have this huuuge project but we are doing okay without having to train up the pajeet and redo his code cause he'll have fucked it up.

How often do you feel like everyone around you just are not trying at all?

Every damn day. People just don't give a fuck anymore, have to tell them 10 times to do a simplest thing. Eventually you get tired of it and just do everything yourself.

it's easy to get discouraged being stuck in the grind. and it sucks doubly hard to be the one constantly picking up the slack. any more i just work to the minimum acceptable level of whatever my standard is. no one ever got promoted by being irreplaceable in their position.

For the most part, my job is just hard enough for me to be satisfied that I'm bringing value to my company for doing it, and just hard enough to force me into working every year to improve my skillset. 15 years ago there were periods where it was insanely difficult. Now, part of my job is teaching stuff to the folks who are much younger than I am and helping them get through the insanely difficult times.

The problem is that over the years, my small 30 person startup company was acquired by a 4,000 person company, and then by a 200,000 person company, so now I'm just a corporate number like M2N6XE84O2. Still, I have a healthy salary, I work with smart people, work from home, largely set my own schedule, and have time to browse Poal during the day. Stacked up against my peers, I rank in the top 10%, which is really the only metric that matters in the short / medium term unless there is a huge shake-up. Pretty fucking nice compared to the gig some people have, I can't complain.

What's your IQ? Remember that IQ is relative. An average person wouldnt hire a glue eating retard with an IQ of 70. If you have an IQ of 130...the average employee is a glue eating retard compared to you.

Not too hard because it's pretty much all I've done my entire life. People complain is the only bitch of the bunch (pun intended). I catch myself taking it too seriously every once in a while. But overall I'm pretty happy. Maybe related - seems people in CO are just pissy all around right now.

Not hard per se, it just takes a toll on your mental health.

Sounds like you work for someone. Develop or improve a hobby that can become your business. I am my own boss, and other than typical bs, (bills, vendors, annoying clients) it’s pretty good.

I set my own hours, dress code, and curate my product. I decide who I work with. I work long hours, but no one works harder for your business than you do. Usually it doesn’t seem like work, I’m rarely exhausted when I come home. When I worked for a big corporation I’d come home just mentally beat and do nothing but eat, drink and go to bed because my brain was worn out with the monotony and senseless bs I had to deal with on a daily basis.

I find that, in general, I’m happier and complain less these I used to. Now I can fix something that bothers me. When I had a matrix of bosses (no joke, some idiot thought it was a great idea and convinced managers to invoke that crap) I’d be tired just explaining to all of them that you can’t have multiple number 1 priorities and that it was their job to work out amongst themselves what the priority hierarchy was.

I used to have my own small business. The pay was great, but inconsistent, and having to go months between big jobs could be stressful. And I sucked at hiring qualified people who wanted to work at a starting salary and did a quality job. They would leave the second they could to work for bigger companies that would pay more and expect less out of them. Best guy I ever hired was definitely autistic, but he was detail oriented and could do the work better than anyone else. He's the only one that I gave pay raises without him asking.

But having to be available all hours of the day to run a business was stressful and not compatible with family life. So now I work for a big corporate outfit with only a few people to manage, and expectations are few. But the pay is steady and my investments are enough that I could retire when I want and live comfortably. But I don't want to work hard for a promotion, because the minor increase in pay isn't worth the headache.

Yeah, I totally understand all of that. I damn near killed myself working for some companies and I am done doing that. I just want people to do at least the bare minimum like read the fucking instructions that I wrote so simply that a 6 year old could do the job.

It blows my mind when someone manages to fuck something up that is so simple you can just copy&paste and hit enter if you just fucking read what I wrote.

I am not asking someone to bust their ass or take away from family life or personal time. Just do the most basic things possible that are highly defined and nearly impossible to fuck up.. Unless you don't read the fucking manual. (by manual I mean about 2 pages if printed including the things you need to copy&paste to achieve the desired result).
