In the interest of others also talking about increasing engagement and not just having poal be a "news repost forum" like I tend to do a lot of and pushing for more OC.

I want to make a sub about asking for help/ideas/guidance on a project, any project. Not unlike AskPoal but more specific.

For example. I want to learn how to garden in my area. I want to learn how to replace a electrical outlet (I made a comment post on this in the DIY sub, probably should be its own post). I want to learn how to preserve food. Etc.

Somewhere for people to post. "Hey, I want to learn a thing. What resources should I look to, Can anyone here help me"? Even if this is just to point you to another sub (such as /s/garden).

So what does everyone think. Is this a stupid idea, is it worth doing? What is a good name for a sub like that? Maybe something like "howdoi" or "teachme", "poalAcademy" or something. I don't know. I really want to know if this is something people actually want more than anything. Lots of us have various skills and can explain/teach them to each other. It would be nice to spread the knowledge/wisdom from your experience.

There are no stupid ideas/questions. Just stupid people. /s Lets hear it.

Do it. I'm betting there's lots of untapped expertise to be shared here.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I see it in the comments mostly. Lots of people know a lot of things and are often willing to share their knowledge but it gets lost in comments. Having it in a more central area may help. Or at least a "hey, I posted this comment here, This probably is what you want". That is the general idea at least.

I like the idea. It could help get more discussion and knowledge sharing going on around here. There are definitely a lot of expert-level Poalrs on a vast array of topics who can help others learn. I'm always amazed to discover what domains of knowledge other Poalrs have when I share some of my knowledge and expertise and they chime in with the appropriate jargon and nomenclature. It's cool to see who knows their shit.

It would be nice to get a feel for who is in what field ala the old Reddit /r/Science sub where people had flair to identify their domains of expertise, but I think that would get abused and/or make for bad opsec. Reddit required proof of your credentials to get flaired and I didn't think that was a good thing because it could lead to easy doxxing so I opted to have no flair. We'll just have to let people choose what they are expert in and trust that they are truthful. It can work in a high-trust Poal society if we try.

So yeah, go for it!

Who needs flare when you can prove what you know with sources? I agree. Maybe one of the first stickies can be /u/Morbo how to give /u/level_101 shit. ;) I joke but I appreciate your comments.

Isn't that /s/homesteading?

[–] 1 pt

Maybe? I don't see it hit the homepage often and I am not sure most people would think to post there to ask "how do I xxxxx". I could be wrong though.

Go for it. I have lots of things to share. Growing up poor as shit means I can fix or have fixed just about anything. Country boy can survive.

I'm inoculating oak this weekend with shitake. Would love to hear if anyone needed help with things like that, because it's not normal, and, I like you niggerfaggots.

Sounds very interesting. Also, I come from that sort of background too. Nearly any of the "new" stuff I had was because I bought it broken and fixed it myself. Otherwise I would have never been able to afford any of it.

Sounds good. I like poalAcademy.

It was a random thought. I just want to know if people think there is even a need or want for something like this. I enjoy sharing what I know and helping others. Not sure if everyone else is like that but sometimes its a lot easier to ask then to hunt down the info on your own even though that is how I tend to work.

I have a lot of skills I would like to share, but a lot of them are oddly specific and could help kikes single me out. Honestly, I'm tired of anonymity.

Teach me is a great sub name!

Was also thinking (less impact full of a sub) having a one-liner sub would be fun.

I would enjoy posts like that, I say do it. Don’t like PaolAcademy, it wouldn’t translate well if we have to move platforms. What about Make-it, or makeStuff 101? Or Makers exchange.

Good Ideas. I would like to see /s/Preppers; /s/PoliticalComments; and /s/Improvised Weapons;

[–] 1 pt

Well, /s/preppers exists already. The other two do not. Maybe something to think about for the future.

[–] 1 pt

Personally I think askpoal already meets this need.

That is a great Idea! I am interested in all those ideas. I try to find things on the topic of sewing and canning. I don't prefer Jewtube so I enjoy finding conversation in the different trades. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
