TBH, the only luck I have had were the rentals from the grocery store. The rest have clogged or required a few sessions to get clean. I finally gave up and tore it all out, put in tile and wood - fake shit (pergola or whatever) for kids/craft rooms.

I concur - thick carpet is pretty much impossible to deep clean even with steam cleaners. Tear it out and put in hardwood or tile.

That's the plan but I can't do that yet because too much furniture has no where to go and no one who can put it there. The carpet is near condemn levels and needs washed regularly.

None. All they do is soak the carpet into the pad beneath and it starts to mold rot and stink. If you can use a professional steam based service so it doesn't soak the carpet.

You used to be able to pick them up cheap used. I don't know about any more, but I got mine free. An old lady neighbor said it was too heavy to use and tossed hers. Even if they are 'broken' they are stupid easy to get parts for and fix. I've probably picked up 3 or 4 over the years and all they needed were simple repairs. One only needed the bag holder thing twisted on tighter.
I've never tried the shampooing attachment though. I hope someday to have a place wohtout carpet. Carpet is so gross but rentals love it.

I have a Hoover power scrub. I borrowed it from a friend and liked it, so I bought one. I don't know if it is the best, but I am happy to see all of the dirt it pulls from the carpets, and once done (and the carpets are dry) the whole house smells extra fresh.
