I am long time windows user since windows for workgroups days until Win10. Tried many times to do full migration to Linux but something would always not work quite right. But then Win10 pissed me off so much I spent a week trying different distros until I found one where everything worked (Linux Mint Cinnamon).
The Win10 thing was the forced updates where even if I turned off Windows updates or edited hosts files etc etc, it would still find a way to force updates on me. Bye bye forever Windows.
I wish I could do that. I really do. Its work that keeps me on it. My company loves windows and google. The owner specifically. Its upsetting. I try to push linux based alternatives to both but the owner just hasn't wanted to bite.
I'm sure you know this as a fellow IT guy, but seriously WINE can run about anything now. There is an even better app called Play on Linux. That is how I got MS Office running on Linux. It is basically a WINE helper. Helps you install and setup WINE for your app.
For years, MS Office and a couple other apps were my shortfalls for making the switch. Now with so much web based and better WINE windows is irrelevant for me on a daily basis. Still have an old Win7 laptop for certain cell phone apps and such.
