What is the best way to train a local population of coyotes to stay away from your property? Bait and kill? My dogs are not the kind that will keep them away. They are the kind that will think “he guys, you seem cool. You like fetch too?” And then get eaten.

The only thing that will keep them away is fear of death. It is something that will never end. You will have to remind them that coming onto your property will result in death always. Coyotes will gang up on and kill and eat whatever they can. They will eat just about anything. It is going to be a never ending battle. A good rifle and never-ending vigilance is the only answer.

Was gonna say 'Paint a fake tunnel onto a mountain side', but yours is also good.

[–] 4 pts

Yeah, I forgot about that one! LOL

[–] 6 pts

Are we talking about coyotes still? /s seems that applies to other mongrels.

[–] 4 pts

Yeah, coyotes, feral dogs, feral hogs, feral "people", etc...

[–] 1 pt

Coyotes, pigs, niggers, etc..

[–] 2 pts

You are insulting coyotes and pigs

[–] -1 pt

Niggers are so stupid, they might actually believe they're not going to die and go for it anyway.

Shoot, shovel, shut up depending on where you are located. Coastal states will jam you up if they find out you shot a coyote or other vermin.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I learned long ago that the best way to get out of or stay out of trouble is too STFU. Many if not most people who get jammed up with the law do so because they just don't know when to shut up. You have the right to remain silent. I suggest that you use it...

Then you hire a liar lawyer to bullshit you out of it. Your punishment then becomes paying for that.

Donkeys or Llamas will stomp the shit out of several coyotes

Bait and kill. Use red light to light up the bait area and use a scope. You're going to have to stay up all night for a while. Depends on how many there are in the area. If they're far enough away, consider using very small, different amounts of bait in multiple piles to draw them in. Just enough to get them to come to your lighted bait pile. You'll be able to hear them as they get closer, they're really loud. Use a semi auto. Anything in a .30 cal and up will do nicely. .223 would be the bare minimum for me, tho Good luck with them

Already have Cellular trail cam and thermal scope. Very excited. I plan on sleeping.

I second this plan. Something to consider. In the winter, when coyote fur is in its prime, you might consider skinning your kills to sell the pelts. I don't think that they bring much though. It's just a thought...

[–] 1 pt

Couple of neck warmers for gifts ....

[–] 3 pts

Mountain Lion piss. Thankfully they sell it so you don't have to milk your own.

[–] 2 pts

"But Brother Hezikiah, we don't have a cow. We have a bull though."

[–] 1 pt

"... I'm gonna go brush my teeth"

[–] 0 pt

'And then drink a quart of this fresh milk !!' ...

[–] 2 pts

I comb it through my chest hair. drives thots nuts. dont go near a horse though

You kill them. In the winter time where I am from, they have a double coat, the pelts can be sold. They also make for some bad ass wall mounts.

Buy you a locator call and fawn call, a blue light. Then watch some videos on how it all works together.

Happy hunting.

its easy to call them in during daylight hours....get a Bluetooth speaker and use a rabbit distress call (they are all over youtube) or buy an electronic call with the different calls already on them. They will also come running if you use a Fox distress call...for some reason they hate foxes and love killing them. I kill them all the time on my property during the day....and it saves all the red light bullshit at night, which for the record is fun...but if your all about business and then sitting next to the fire at night...using the distress calls during the day is the way to go.

side note.....you need to be hidden, they have excellent vision and wont show themselves or run away if they even think you are there...set yourself up so you are camoed up somehow and you don't have to make a lot of movements that can be spotted easily.

[–] 1 pt

They hate foxes because foxes are competition for prey.

[–] 2 pts

Shoot, shovel, dont call border patrol.

[–] 2 pts

Distract them with a roadrunner.

[–] 1 pt

Fence up, they rove a lot at night and in big groups (30-50), night/thermal vision and a hunting rifle a few down and they will stop coming as often. See if your county has a bounty on them so you can make some money, do not go and retrieve the carcass alone unless you know they all scattered. Did this in Nevada when there were bounties on those suckers.

Always used a treble hook with raw chicken on it once one dies they never come back atleast not in a one mile radius minimum

The problem with coyote is that they communicate every night by howling, and when known howls stop answering it causes the next set of litters to become larger.

It's not the best problem to have, because eventually, they will likely get your pets no matter how vigilant you remain with shooting them every month.

Or until you get smart enough to try something that's more likely to succeed, like keeping pets inside or in an enclosure.

[–] 0 pt

You sound like a city dweller to think that pets should be inside or in an enclosure at all.

In any case, I personally don't see the point of owning a dog that would get owned by a coyote, but, that thought doesn't help OP. :shrugs:

You sound like a crybaby. "Sniff. It's not fair that my dog can't stay outside. No fair!”

It's not a question of should, it's a question of what will work and is practical. Exterminating coyotes is unlikely to succeed. Keeping your dog in the house at night is guaranteed to work.
