Still can't believe we wasted a million dollar missile against a $20 balloon

I'm surprised a missle was able to target the thing. How big was that basket?

I suppose an alternative would have been to strafe it with a 20mm, but you might need to make a few passes. A few small holes might not be enough to bring it down quickly.

That balloon has the capacity to go many times higher than any of our planes, so chances are you need to use a missle.

Doesn't look like a jet and the balloon was still there. Need more footage. The post said it was the first missile implying there was a second one but I'm not sure.

Considering the balloon was launched as a distraction I would think it would be a good opportunity to test counter measures.

Is anyone else embarrassed that they used an F-22 which is like 100 million dollar airplane to shoot a balloon that was made in ching chong pows backyard? They could have shot a rock with a slingshot on a hot air balloon at the thing and brought it down...
