Americas founders understood that in the absence of God, government would mistakenly believe it is the source of our rights, with the power to arbitrarily take them away. By establishing God as the source of our rights, it moved government into a perminant subservant role. I'm not saying you need to need to believe, I'm saying that is the history of our country that gave us relative freedom, unsurpassed prosperity and a government we managed to keep in check for two centuries.
